In this first article I want to explore the first step in the writing process — creating the space and the right conditions to receive songs into our lives. Of course, if you write poetry or plays or sermons or paint and sculpt, then many of these principles apply!

The margins are some of the best places to write. Literally. Scriggle something down on whatever you’re holding, writing on, reading. Why wait for the correct time?
Non-Literally. It is the margins of places that test you and push. It is in the coner of your eyes that you see somethings and it is in the edges of reason you grow.
At times the margin is the best place to be.
Many spend their whole lives in the middle of the page.
But you need both to make sense of the whole message.
